Photographers take on bridal party fun!
Who doesn’t love the funny and organic bridal party pictures? It is always entertaining to watch a group of friends get together on such an important day and have a great time. It is impressive to watch the photographer capture these moments flawlessly. We asked Nicole Wasko with Nicole Wasko Photography how she does it. How does she get to know the vibe of the client and also the group? How is it that a photographer can capture such goofy moments but still make them look magazine worthy? Here is what she had to say:
Working with a wedding party is always a fun but challenging job. My couple has asked their favorite people to stand by their side on their wedding day because they have a close relationship with each of them. These are people they cannot possibly imagine their wedding day without. Many of them have witnessed the growth of their relationship from day one, and some of them have known the bride or groom for most of their lives. When you think about it, capturing genuine emotion and laughter should be an easy thing to do with a group of such close friends.
In my experience, I’ve found that there is almost always a sense of awkwardness to a wedding party either because they are camera shy or because they are a collection of friends, college friends, roommates, church friends, as well as siblings, etc.
Such an eclectic group is bound to experience some type of awkwardness since it is likely that this is the first time they have ever hung out together. The stress of a wedding combined with this obscure tension can lead to a challenge for a wedding photographer who was asked to capture “candid” moments of the bridal party having fun together as a group.
As a photographer, I always fall back on the one thing the bridal party has in common – their relationship with the bride or the groom.
Finding ways to focus on those relationships can create a fun atmosphere. During bridal party photos, I like to ask the bride “Which bridesmaid is most likely to be the first on the dance floor tonight?” or “Who is going to be the first to start crying?”.
